Kids: Can You Point to Someone and Say “He’s Moshiach”? πŸ€”

Ever tried to find your father in a huge crowd? You don’t panic.

You just remember what he looks like: tall, blue jacket, glasses.

You scan the crowd… and there he is.

You didn’t guess. You knew what to look for.

πŸ‘‹ Quick check: Imagine you’re at a huge carnival with your father. You wander off, get lost in the crowd, and suddenly you hear “there he is!” Your father spotted you. How? He knows exactly what you look like. Same face, same walk, same hoodie you always wear. A description is powerful in both directions.

The Torah, G‑d’s own guidebook for how He wants us to live and what He wants us to do, did the same thing for Moshiach. It gave us a description, specific things to look for.

So when someone comes along and matches… you can actually recognize him.

First β€” Who Is Moshiach?

Moshiach is not an angel. Not a magic person from another world.

He is a real person. A Jew. Someone who has spent his whole life studying what G-d wants, living by it, and guiding others to do the same, the kind of person the whole community turns to when they need to know: what does G-d want us to do here?

He could be someone alive right now, or he could come from someone who already passed away. The Torah keeps that open. That means G-d has the power to bring him. We just have to be ready.

The Torah gives you a way to spot him. It gives you a recognition kit.

The Torah’s Description β€” Your Recognition Kit πŸ”

So, imagine this: a lot of Jewish people believe that one day a super-special leader will show up β€” someone kind and powerful who will fix what’s wrong in the world and bring real peace everywhere. That person is called Moshiach. But figuring out *who* that is? It’s kind of like being in a giant crowd and trying to spot your dad β€” you know he’s there somewhere, but you need some clues to find him.

βœ… These qualities give someone the Torah status of Presumed Moshiach β€” it’s not just a guess, it’s a real category in Jewish law:

πŸ€” So here’s a fun thought: Do YOU know anyone who fits these criteria? Someone who learns a lot of Torah, keeps the mitzvos really carefully, and gets other people excited about doing good and learning? Someone like that exists somewhere β€” maybe you’ll meet them, or maybe you already know them and didn’t realize it!

  • He comes from the family of Dovid Hamelech (King David).
  • He learns a lot of Torah.
  • He keeps the mitzvos very carefully.
  • He gets other Jews excited about Torah and mitzvos.
  • He fights for what is right and good.
  • He fights the wars of Hashem.

⭐ Once he does these, it’s confirmed β€” he IS Moshiach for sure:

  • He builds the Beis Hamikdash (the Holy Temple).
  • He brings all Jews back to Eretz Yisroel (the Land of Israel).

These are not mystery clues. These are things you can see a person doing in real life.

Just like finding your dad in a crowd: you look for the signs, you match them, and you recognize him.

πŸ€” Which sign on this list surprises you the most?

Did Torah Leaders Ever Actually Point to a Specific Person?

Yes! And they didn’t guess β€” they used the Torah’s recognition kit we just learned.

In the Gemara (the Talmud), great Torah leaders talked about what kind of person Moshiach would be. One leader, Rav, said: ‘If Moshiach is alive today, he would be someone like Rabbeinu HaKadosh β€” our greatest teacher.’ Another, Rav Nachman, said: ‘If Moshiach is alive today, he would be someone like me.’ They were painting a picture of what kind of person Moshiach would look like.

They weren’t saying ‘this person IS Moshiach.’ They were saying: if you want to know what kind of person Moshiach would be β€” what his qualities look like in real life β€” look at someone like that.

Rav pointed to Rabbeinu HaKadosh, one of the greatest Torah scholars who ever lived, and said: that’s the type. That level of Torah, that kind of leadership, that dedication β€” that’s what Moshiach would look like.

Rav Nachman pointed to himself β€” not out of pride, but to show: Moshiach is a real person, with real qualities you can recognize. Someone who leads, teaches, and cares deeply about the Jewish people.

These were some of the greatest Torah minds ever. They weren’t making a legal declaration. They were giving us a human picture β€” a clue β€” of what Moshiach would look like when he walks among us.

πŸ‘‹ So what’s the difference between guessing and recognizing? (Hint: one uses clues, one doesn’t!)

Every Generation Has Someone

The Bartenura says: in every generation, there is a person from the family of Dovid who is fitting to be Moshiach.

The Bartenura was a super famous Torah teacher from 500 years ago β€” kids your age still learn from his books today.

The Chasam Sofer adds: when Hashem decides it is the right time, He sends that person as Moshiach.

The Chasam Sofer was one of the greatest rabbis of the last few hundred years β€” thousands of Jews looked to him for answers.

That means the right person already exists, in our generation, right now or ready to come.

The Rebbe says this is true in every generation. That includes ours.

⚑

So What Does This Mean for You?

It is not a wild guess to point to a person and say: “He could be Moshiach,” if he fits the Torah’s signs.

It’s actually the Torah-approved thing to do. How cool is that?

πŸ€” Whoa β€” so there’s someone alive today who could be Moshiach? How does that make you feel?

The greatest Torah leaders in the Gemara (Talmud) did this. They looked at real people, knew the signs, and said: “He fits what the Torah says.”

They were not trying to be smart. They were following the rules Hashem put in the Torah.

So your recognition kit is not just a cool idea. It is a tool you are supposed to use.

You can learn the signs. You can look at a real tzaddik. You can ask: does he match what the Torah and the Rambam say?

When you do that, you are not making things up. You are doing real Torah work.

Now you have the recognition kit. You know what to look for. And you know you are allowed, even meant, to use it. πŸ”
